Editorial Tribute: A Final Salute to Our Guiding Light, Shashi R. Bhandimar

From the Editorial and Staff of Times of Kudla

With hearts weighed down by an unimaginable loss, we at Times of Kudla bid farewell to our founder, leader, and inspiration—Shashi R. Bhandimar. His untimely passing on Wednesday night in Nagaland due to a cardiac arrest has left a void that no words can ever fill. He was just 41, yet his legacy is timeless.

Shashi Sir was not just our editor; he was the very soul of Times of Kudla. A visionary journalist, a relentless advocate for Tuluva identity, a silent worker, and a man of deep conviction, he dedicated his life to the preservation and promotion of Tulu language and culture. In 2011, when he founded Times of Kudla, he didn’t just start a newspaper—he ignited a movement.

His dream was simple yet profound: to give Tulu a voice, to make it heard, to make it seen, and to make it thrive. And he did just that. Under his leadership, Times of Kudla became the only Tulu-language newspaper, a beacon of light for the Tulu-speaking world, celebrating our history, traditions, and unsung heroes. But his work didn’t stop at words—he organized events, supported countless Tulu initiatives, and fought relentlessly for the recognition of our heritage. In 2013, he led the Tulu Samelanne, a landmark event dedicated to raising awareness about Tuluva culture.

His passion extended far beyond journalism. He was a self-made entrepreneur, building businesses that reflected his love for his land and people. From Kudla Furniture Factory in Nagaland to Isiri Guesthouse and Sri Hari Hotel, every venture he undertook was a reflection of his vision, hard work, and commitment to excellence.

But perhaps his most impactful work was through Times of Kudla’s digital platforms—the YouTube, Website and Instagram channels, where he brought the world the sights, sounds, and soul of Tulunadu. He traveled tirelessly, venturing deep into the heart of our coastal belt, capturing its essence, its rituals, its cuisine, its people. His mission was not just to document but to awaken a global love for Tulu culture—and he did just that.

His dedication did not go unnoticed. Honored with the prestigious “Tuluva Nesara” title by Jai Tulunad (R) Association, and recognized by numerous organizations worldwide, he stood tall as a guardian of Tulu pride. Yet, he remained a humble, silent force, never seeking recognition—only striving to uplift his people.

Today, we grieve. We grieve for the leader we lost, for the dreams he was still chasing, for the future that feels uncertain without him. But we also promise—his vision will not fade, his mission will not stop, his legacy will not be forgotten.

Shashi Sir, you built Times of Kudla to be the voice of Tulunadu. We, your team, will ensure that voice never falls silent.

Rest in peace, dear mentor, leader, and friend.
Your journey on this earth has ended, but your story will live on in every heart that beats for Tulu Nadu.
